Super PrisonRecent reports have suggested that the need for experts in construction North Wales is set to soar after tentative plans to build a super-prison in Wrexham edge ever closer to approval.

The idea has been bandied around for what seems like forever but only now does it appear that council members are finally starting to come around to the idea after tireless campaigning.

With plans to build on the land which once housed the Firestone tyre factory and has now become almost derelict after 40 years of neglect, this could prove a major boost to construction companies throughout the region who will all be vying for the contract.

With an estimated economy boost of £23m per annum for Wrexham, the Ministry of Justice have acted to give the project their seal of approval as the preferred choice. Considering how much potential it has to be a sustainable and reputable construction in North Wales, it could be not too long before the project receives the full approval it needs.

As well as providing jobs for those in construction, there will also be opportunities for regular workers to gain employment once the build is completed. Roughly 760 people will benefit from the super-prison which will be able to house 2,000 inmates within its sprawling complex.

Located within Wrexham Industrial Estate, the centre for many businesses in North Wales, the facility will be four-storeys high with three of these possibly being constructed. The adjacent compound will also be fortified with a large fence to quell any security fears.

A report from officials claimed: “The selection of the site for an important piece of national infrastructure is a significant and positive endorsement of both the Wrexham Industrial Estate and the County Borough.

“Furthermore, the location of a major employer in the county borough will result in job opportunities for local people that currently do not exist.”
